Podcast: Ebola Fears About Distrust of Government

New podcast! Just an hour this week, but there’s a reason why (and it’s not laziness…this time). Listen by clicking play above, or click here to download the file and listen later. Follow me on Twitter @jeffscottshow and find me on Facebook at Jeff Scott Show.

A lot of people are upset about bringing American Ebola patients back to the United States for treatment, but in reality this is what America should be doing—caring for its own. These patients were first given an experimental serum made from tobacco plants, which is reason enough to light a cigar this weekend. I do understand the concern, considering that the CDC has had problems with losing dangerous diseases in the past, but that’s a question of government competence, not right or wrong. For example, why should we have faith in the federal government to competently treat and control Ebola when they can’t keep track of over $600 billion in money that they spend? The Obama Administration is also showing its desperation and desire for control by trying to erect an economic Berlin Wall to prevent companies from leaving the United States over its punitive tax code, even though the administration allowed Delphi to do exactly that as part of its bankruptcy and bailout. Some statists are even suggesting really creepy sounding corporate loyalty oaths. This kind of rhetoric only works when the federal government spends over $2 trillion per year in benefits to individuals, so of course the “soak the corporations” sounds good to those recipients. Of course, don’t expect the same outrage over the Hollywood stars of “The Big Bang Theory” making $1 million per episode—not that there should be.

The enemies of freedom and privacy are trying to discredit Edward Snowden by saying that al Qaida has changed their tactics after Snowden’s leaks. Basically, we should sit down and shut up while the federal government spies on us because they’re spying on al Qaida too.
